Magic Hour AI Video Generator Review

Magic Hour puts talking photos, UGC ads, face swap and fifteen video models behind one credit wallet. Here is what it gets right, what reviewers grumble about, and where Yovid takes a different route.

The short version

Should you pay for Magic Hour?

It depends on what you make. Magic Hour, a Y Combinator company founded in 2023, runs a browser studio of more than 100 tools: lip sync, face and head swaps, UGC ad builders and talking photos, plus image editing, music and voice. It hosts 15 video models, Veo 3.1, Seedance 2.5 and Kling 3.0 among them. Credits never expire, and paid tiers cost $19, $39 or $99 a month ($12, $25 or $66 on annual billing). Seedance 2.5 is reserved for Creator and above and costs between 168 and 1,008 credits each second. Trustpilot shows 3.0 from only 13 reviews. If you mainly generate video, Yovid runs Seedance, Veo, Kling, MiniMax H3 and Wan with pay-once packs and a free Seedance week on Premium.

What You Get with Magic Hour

Magic Hour began as a quick way to make social video and has since become a studio where more than 100 tools draw from a single credit balance. The sections below follow what Magic Hour’s own pages lead with, and each ends with the closest Yovid option where one exists.

Fifteen Video Models, from Seedance to LTX

On October 22, 2026, the models page counted 15 video engines. Five were Seedance (1.5, 2 Mini, 2.0 Fast, 2.0 and 2.5). Kling showed up as 2.6 and 3.0, Wan as Wan-Animate, 2.2 and 3.0, and Veo 3.1 in Lite and standard form. LTX-2.5, MiniMax H3 and Google Omni, a model that rewrites an existing video from a prompt, rounded it out. Sora was missing.

Image engines share the menu: FLUX.2 Klein, Seedream 5 Pro, GPT Image 2, and Nano Banana in 2.1 and Pro versions. Before anything runs, the form displays an estimate of the credits it will take.

Yovid likewise keeps several model families behind one prompt box: Seedance 2.5, 2.0 and Mini, MiniMax H3, Veo 3.1, Wan 3.0 and Kling 3.0 with Motion Control, each with its credit price on screen before you generate.

Seedance 2.5 from the Creator Plan Up

The Seedance 2.5 page on Magic Hour handles text to video, image to video and editing an existing clip. Resolution options run from 480p through 720p to 1080p, frames can be portrait 9:16, landscape 16:9 or square 1:1, audio is generated natively, and a clip can last half a minute. Its built-in generator carries a “Requires Creator+” tag, and the model card names Creator, Pro and Business as the plans that include it.

That card prices the model between 168 and 1,008 credits for each second, rising with resolution and with video references. Even at the floor rate, ten seconds costs 1,680 credits, roughly 14% of the 12,000 a Creator subscriber receives each month.

On Yovid, Seedance 2.5 is part of every paid plan and every credit pack: clips as long as 30 seconds, sound made alongside the picture, and guidance from reference images, video or audio. Lite renders it at 720p; Pro, Premium and packs at 1080p.

Free Tools That Need No Account

A good share of Magic Hour works before you register or install anything. Image to video allows three free runs a day, each a 3-second clip with sound, exported at 480p and watermarked. Face swap permits five photo swaps a day plus three swaps on videos or GIFs, and talking photo three runs a day.

Registering adds 400 credits, a daily claim of 100 credits up to seven times, and longer outputs. Watermarks may still appear on free video and audio, and anything made at no cost is limited to personal, non-commercial use.

Yovid’s free start works differently: no-card sign-up credits, spent in the full image-to-video and text-to-video generator on entry models (Seedance 2.0 Mini and older) at up to 720p.

Face, Head and Body Swaps

Swapping faces is what Magic Hour is best known for. It handles photos, videos and GIFs, runs multi-face swaps from the dashboard, and adds body swap, head swap and Character Replace, which substitutes the whole figure. Footage can be uploaded or pulled in from a YouTube link.

Dashboard pricing starts at 10 credits for a photo face swap, more at 2K or 4K, while video swaps scale with length and resolution. Magic Hour asks users to hold the rights to every face and clip they feed in. Yovid offers no face, head or body swapping, so this part of Magic Hour has no counterpart on our side.

Lip Sync, Talking Photos and a UGC Ad Maker

Feed Magic Hour’s AI UGC Ad Generator an image and the lines the on-screen actor should deliver, and it returns an ad in the look of user-generated content. Talking Photo makes one face per picture speak from a recording or from text-to-speech, while Lip Sync re-times the mouth in a video to a new soundtrack. A video translator and an AI avatar generator round out the set.

One reviewer who pays for Creator speaks well of the UGC maker but warns that avatar and UGC runs burn through credits fast.

100+ Tools Paid from One Credit Pool

Beyond generating, Magic Hour’s plan comparison lists a wide toolbox. For images there are generators for headshots and influencers, an AI image editor, generative fill, background removal and an upscaler. Video gets translation, colorizing, upscaling, subtitles and watermark removal. Audio covers sound effects, music, and voice generation and cloning.

Its template library holds over 10,000 templates, from music videos to memes and trending dances. Every tool spends from the same pool, so one subscription reaches all of them.

The Yovid way

Yovid’s toolbox is smaller and video-led: an image generator with Seedream 5.0, Nano Banana and GPT Image 2.5, image and video upscalers, and AI Canvas for chaining steps. Pro and Premium add a year of unlimited image generation on the supported models.

Developer API and SDKs

A REST API exposes the video, audio and image tools plus per-model endpoints. SDKs exist for Go, Rust, Python and Node, and a playground lets visitors try a free sample without an account. Per-second rates on the API page start at $0.023 (MiniMax H3, Wan 2.2) and top out at $0.091 (Seedance 2.0, Veo 3.1).

Calls are paid from the prepaid credits the web app uses, and Creator and every higher tier list full API access. Yovid has a REST API as well, with documentation in English and Chinese.

Who Runs Magic Hour and What It Is Built For

Magic Hour was started in 2023 by David Hu, who had been an engineer at Skillz, and Runbo Li, who had worked as a data scientist at Meta; the pair went through Y Combinator in its Winter 2024 cohort. Its About page says the idea grew from videos Runbo made for the hot pot business run by his parents, and that early versions reached over 500 million on social media.

Today the product is a browser studio of 100+ tools across images, audio and video, with templates, SDKs and an API, used by what it says are more than 3.8 million creators and 2,000 teams. When it launched on Y Combinator, the stated plan was to take the strongest open-source AI models, adjust their settings and package them as simple templates.

Yovid is an independent multi-model platform focused on generation: Seedance, Kling, Veo, Wan and MiniMax H3 for video, GPT Image 2.5, Nano Banana and Seedream for stills, plus AI Canvas, upscalers and an API, with the credit price shown before every run and pay-once packs. It offers no face swap, avatars, voice cloning or template library.

Who Magic Hour Suits Best

Magic Hour fits people who want lots of fast, single-purpose tools under one login: creators, marketers, developers and busy teams. If what you need is longer, cinematic Seedance footage at a cost you can plan for, a generator built around video may serve you better.

Social creators

Face swaps, talking photos and dance, meme and music-video templates for YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, many usable with no account at all.

UGC ad marketers

Turn a product picture and a short script into UGC-style spots and test them across social channels; some reviewers use it to promote apps and products.

Developers

Hit the image-to-video, face swap and per-model endpoints from code, billed to the credits the web app uses.

Agencies and busy studios

Business allows unlimited parallel generations, 4K output and uploads up to 10GB, and bigger teams can ask for custom pricing.

Video editors

Caption videos in 50+ languages, translate, colorize or upscale them, and create voice-overs and music without leaving the account.

Model testers

From Creator upward, run one brief through MiniMax H3, Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 and Seedance 2.5 and pay from a single balance.

Magic Hour User Reviews and Ratings

Magic Hour’s Trustpilot page listed just 13 reviews, so we read them all. Seven are one-star, and most of those concern free credits exhausted before anything was generated, free outputs too brief to be useful, crashes and slow replies. The remaining six are four- or five-star and credit the ease of use, the range of models, the daily credits and the support team. A review can feed more than one theme below.

Praise that keeps coming up

  1. 01

Simple to use, with many tools and models together

Five-star reviewers describe it as easy and flexible. A reviewer producing UGC ads for an app finds it cheaper than rival services with every model on offer, and a year-long Creator subscriber singles out face swap, the UGC maker and making video from text or images.

  2. 02

Useful daily credits and responsive support

One four-star review finds the daily allowance enough for real content and notes that a transparent background survived image to video, while the newest five-star review thanks support for following up on feedback.

Recurring complaints

  1. 01

Free credits that run out before anything renders

The most frequent grievance. One person spent the 400 sign-up credits without getting a single result (Magic Hour answered that the chosen job needed 500), another could not claim sign-up credits because of an error, and a third stopped receiving daily credits.

    How Yovid handles it

No card is needed for Yovid’s sign-up credits, which run entry models (Seedance 2.0 Mini and older) at 720p or below, and each run shows its credit price before it starts, so you know in advance whether your balance stretches far enough.

  2. 02

Free results too short to judge

Testers of the free tools ended up with music capped at 30 seconds and video lasting 3 seconds. Magic Hour’s reply: those limits apply only to the no-account previews, and a free account allows longer results.

    How Yovid handles it

Yovid’s Seedance 2.5 renders sound-on clips as long as 30 seconds on Lite or on any pack from $29.90; free credits are limited to entry models at up to 720p.

  3. 03

    Crashes and slow support replies

One free face swap trial kept crashing, and another user saw daily and existing credits vanish with no answer from support. Magic Hour later restored those credits, explaining that its FAQ was out of date after daily credits changed.

    How Yovid handles it

On Yovid, a run that fails hands its credits back, and Premium subscribers get priority support.

  4. 04

Output that does not match the marketing

A recent one-star review accuses Magic Hour of bait and switch, saying the results it produced were far from what the website promised.

    How Yovid handles it

Yovid’s showcase pairs each clip made on the platform with the prompt that produced it, so you can judge a model before spending anything, and an unused purchase can be refunded within 3 days.

We went through the score and every review on October 22, 2026. Magic Hour has claimed its profile, invites customers to post and replies to critical reviews, and 13 reviews is a thin sample. Everything here is paraphrased; follow the links for each reviewer’s own words.

Why Some Magic Hour Users Move to Yovid

Those who switch usually care more about generating video than about face swaps or templates, and want more Seedance footage for the same budget.

  1. 01

A free Seedance week on Premium

Premium ($99 a month on yearly billing) includes one 7-day window per account of free Seedance 2.5 and 2.0 clips, as many as 11 clips of 10 seconds at 720p, and failed runs give their credits back. Magic Hour has no unlimited tier; even at the cheapest Seedance 2.5 rate, the 12,000 credits Creator gets each month buy about 71 seconds.

  2. 02

    1080p Seedance 2.5 without a subscription

Yovid packs start at $29.90, never renew, last 180 days to a year and include Seedance 2.5 at 1080p with commercial rights. On Magic Hour, the Seedance 2.5 generator is tagged “Requires Creator+”, and its model card names only the Creator, Pro and Business plans.

  3. 03

A free trial in the full generator

Sign-up credits on Yovid require no card and run in the regular composer on entry models, Seedance 2.0 Mini and older, capped at 720p. Magic Hour’s video tools without an account give watermarked 480p clips lasting 3 seconds. When you upgrade, Lite at $13 a month (billed yearly) opens every video model except MiniMax H3.

When Magic Hour is still the better call

  • You want one subscription that covers lip sync, face swap, UGC ads and talking photos, along with voice, music and image editing, not just video generation.
  • You are building on an API and want SDKs for Go, Rust, Python or Node that bill to your plan’s credits.
  • Credits that never lapse matter to you: Magic Hour rolls over daily, sign-up, pack and plan credits alike.

Questions People Ask

Straight answers on Magic Hour, based on what we checked on October 22, 2026.

What do people use Magic Hour for?
Making short AI videos and images fast. Typical jobs are UGC-style ads, lip sync, talking photos and face swaps; generating video from text or a picture with Veo 3.1, Kling 3.0 or Seedance 2.5; and editing images or creating music and voice. Social creators lean on the templates, while developers call the same tools via the API.
Can you use Magic Hour for free?
Partly. Core tools like talking photo, face swap and image to video work with no account, within daily caps: the video tool, for example, allows three 3-second, 480p clips with a watermark. Signing up brings 400 credits and a daily 100-credit claim, up to seven times, for non-commercial use. Paying starts at $19 a month for Creator, then $39 for Pro and $99 for Business; with annual billing those drop to $12, $25 and $66 a month (as of October 22, 2026).
What is Magic Hour’s refund policy?
Refunds exist, but the window is short. Subscription and renewal payments can be refunded in full within a week, as long as under 400 credits have gone since the charge; a credit pack qualifies within a week only while all of its credits are untouched. Is Seedance 2.5 available on Magic Hour?
Yes, on paid tiers: Creator, Pro and Business list it, with 480p, 720p or 1080p output and clips up to 30 seconds with audio, costing 168–1,008 credits a second, with resolution and video references setting the rate. It also carries Seedance 1.5, 2 Mini, 2.0 Fast and 2.0.
Do Magic Hour credits ever expire?
No. Its help center says every unused credit rolls over indefinitely, whether it came from a subscription, a pack, sign-up, a daily claim or a promotion, and cancelling does not wipe them, though your plan still decides which features you can open.
Which Magic Hour alternative suits video work?
For Seedance-heavy video work, Yovid: Seedance 2.5 on every paid plan and pack, a free Seedance week on Premium, packs from $29.90 with no subscription, and Kling, Veo, Wan and MiniMax H3 in the same composer. If you also want a cinematic toolkit, Higgsfield is the nearest multi-model choice.
Is Yovid part of Magic Hour?
No. Yovid is independent and has no ties to Magic Hour. Seedance, Veo, Kling and Magic Hour are trademarks of their owners, used here only so the products can be described and compared.
