Stability AI Review for Creators and Developers

The lab behind Stable Diffusion now sells downloadable weights, pay-per-call image services and a music app, but nothing that makes video in a browser. Here is what each part costs and where Yovid fits.

The short version

Is Stability AI the right tool for you?

Only if you want models to run or build on. Stability AI, the London and Los Angeles company behind Stable Diffusion, now sells three things: open weights for images (Stable Diffusion 3.5) and music (Stable Audio 3.0), free to self-host for anyone earning under $1M a year; a developer API billed in one-cent credits, where one image costs 2.5 to 8 of them; and Stable Audio, a music app with plans from $12 a month. Hosted video is gone, because the Stable Video Diffusion API was switched off on July 24, 2025. Trustpilot scores stability.ai 1.8 across 16 reviews, mostly about billing. To make clips in a browser, Yovid offers Kling, Veo, Wan and Seedance 2.5, with packs you pay for once.

What Stability AI Offers Today

Stability AI makes models rather than an all-in-one app. Most of the catalogue is weights you download or license and an API you call from code, with one consumer product, for music. Each part is below, followed by the closest thing Yovid has.

Stable Diffusion 3.5 Weights to Run Yourself

On November 1, 2026 the Stable Image page opened on Stable Diffusion 3.5, introduced as the company’s strongest image model, with buttons to get a license, use the API or start creating. The family comes in three sizes. Large has 8 billion parameters and targets professional work at 1 megapixel, Large Turbo finishes a picture in four steps, and Medium is sized for consumer graphics cards. The older SDXL, and its single-step Turbo variant, are still offered.

Because the weights are open, people fine-tune them, train LoRAs on them and build their own apps around them, and cloud hosts such as Amazon Bedrock serve them as well. The trade-off is practical: the GPU, the interface and the upkeep are yours to supply.

The Yovid way

Yovid hosts its image models for you, so there is nothing to install: GPT Image 2.5, Seedream 5.0, Nano Banana 2.1 and Nano Banana Pro run in the browser with output up to 4K, and Pro or Premium adds a year of unlimited images on the supported models.

A Pay-per-Call API for Images

Credits are bought ahead of time, one cent each, and every request draws them down. On the check date the cheapest picture came from SD 3.5 Flash at 2.5 credits, followed by Stable Image Core at 3, SD 3.5 Medium at 3.5, Large Turbo at 4 and Large at 6.5; Stable Image Ultra, the flagship built on SD 3.5 Large, sat on top at 8. Separate editing calls can erase or inpaint, outpaint, cut out or replace a background (relighting the subject), and find an object by name to swap or recolor it.

Three upscalers are sold. Creative, at 60 credits, rebuilds weak pictures at 4K; Conservative costs 40; and Fast charges 2 credits for a 4x enlargement capped at 4 megapixels. Control calls take a sketch, a structure map or a style example as the guide for a new picture. According to Stability, each request goes through a safety filter, results carry C2PA content credentials, and an account may send up to 150 requests in any 10 seconds.

Yovid’s image upscaler sharpens and enlarges a still in the browser, no code needed. If you are a developer, note that the Yovid API serves Seedance video models, not image endpoints.

Stable Audio 3.0, the Music Side

Music is now the company’s consumer face, and Stable Audio sits first in the stability.ai menu. Version 3.0 writes complete tracks of up to six minutes in 44.1 kHz stereo, reshapes an uploaded recording to match a prompt, and can redo or extend a single section. Stability says the training data is licensed music from the AudioSparx catalogue.

You can use it at stableaudio.com; inside Logic, Ableton and other hosts via a Mac plugin, in VST3 and AU formats, that follows the project tempo (Windows was marked as coming soon); or over the API, whose price list showed Stable Audio 2.5 at 8 credits per track. Two smaller versions, 3.0 Medium and 3.0 Small, are released as open weights for local use.

The Yovid way

Yovid has no music generator. Its Seedance 2.5 renders dialogue, ambience and effects in the same pass as the picture, and can follow an audio file you add as a reference.

Stable Video Diffusion, Now Self-Hosted Only

Stability’s video model turns a text prompt into 14 or 25 frames, played back at anything from 3 to 30 frames a second and rendered in two minutes or less, according to its page. In practice that is a few silent seconds per clip.

The hosted route has closed. The Stable Video Diffusion API was retired on July 24, 2025, and the old stablevideo.com app now forwards to the model page. You can still license the weights and run them on your own machines, but Stability itself no longer gives you anywhere to generate a video.

The Yovid way

Video is what Yovid is built for. Seedance 2.5 is available from Lite ($13 a month paid yearly) with clips of up to 30 seconds and sound, and Kling, Veo 3.1, Wan 3.0 and MiniMax H3 sit in the same composer.

3D Assets and Multi-View Video from One Image

Stable Point Aware 3D (SPAR3D) turns a single picture into a full 3D object in less than a second and lets you edit its structure, while Stable Fast 3D, built on TripoSR, hands back a textured asset in about half a second. Both can also be called through the API. Stable Video 4D takes a clip of an object and generates fresh views of it from eight angles.

Older releases remain downloadable too: TripoSR (a joint release with Tripo AI), Stable Zero123 and Stable Video 3D. The audience is game, VR, retail and design teams who need meshes, not finished footage.

Community and Enterprise Licenses

Under the Community License, researchers, developers, creators and companies earning less than $1M a year can use Stable Fast 3D, Stable Audio 3.0, SDXL Turbo, SD 3.5 and the rest of the catalogue at no charge, commercially too, provided commercial users register with Stability. What you generate and what you derive, LoRAs for example, belongs to you.

Once a company passes $1M in revenue, affiliates counted, the Community License stops covering it and an Enterprise license is required. That one is priced on request and can bundle custom training and consulting, and large firms can also commission bespoke models through the Strategic Partnerships team.

Who Is Behind Stability AI

Stability AI made its name with Stable Diffusion, the open family of image models. Its Terms of Service, in force from September 30, 2026, sign UK, EU and Swiss customers up with Stability AI Ltd in London and everyone else with its Los Angeles arm, Stability AI US Services Corporation, under California law with arbitration for US users. Prem Akkaraju, once the head of Weta Digital, has been chief executive since June 2024.

Under him the company has turned toward studios and enterprises, and the money has followed: a $76M Series B, announced on August 25, 2026, lifted total funding to $232M. Electronic Arts and the three major record companies, Universal, Sony and Warner, are among the investors, and James Cameron sits on the board. Meanwhile the consumer image apps have been wound down. Stable Assistant’s old links now point to the Strategic Partnerships page, and visiting dreamstudio.ai brings up a sign-in for Brand Studio, an enterprise product.

Yovid is a separate, independent service. It hosts video models (Seedance, Kling, Veo, Wan and MiniMax H3) beside image models such as GPT Image 2.5, Seedream 5.0 and Nano Banana, adds AI Canvas and upscalers, and shows the credit price of every run before you start it.

Who Gets the Most from Stability AI

Stability AI pays off for people who want to own the model layer: run it, tune it or sell a product on top of it. If you only want a finished clip from a prompt, a hosted generator saves you the setup.

Product teams adding image features

Call the API for generation, background removal, inpainting or upscaling inside your own app, paying per request.

Companies keeping data in house

Host Stable Diffusion 3.5 on your own GPUs, free below $1M in revenue or under an Enterprise license above it.

LoRA and fine-tune makers

Train styles or characters on the open weights and keep the rights to both the tuned model and what it produces.

Musicians and producers

Sketch tracks, loops and effects in Stable Audio, then pull them into Logic or Ableton through the Mac plugin.

Game, VR and retail 3D teams

Turn concept art or product shots into meshes with SPAR3D or Stable Fast 3D, self-hosted or through the API.

Enterprises wanting their own model

Have Stability train a model on in-house imagery, a service it pitches to automotive, healthcare, construction and entertainment firms.

What Reviewers Say About Stability AI

Stability AI has claimed neither of its Trustpilot pages and does not invite reviews. stability.ai stands at 1.8 from 16 reviews, 88% of them one-star and none above two stars, with only 2 posted in the last 12 months; dreamstudio.ai, the image app it has since retired, stands at 2.6 on 4 reviews. Every one of those 20 reviews, dated December 2022 to October 2026, was read for this page. Most concern DreamStudio, Stable Assistant or Stable Audio subscriptions; one is about the API and none about the open weights. The same problems keep returning: charges after cancelling, silence from support, credit prices raised after purchase and outputs that miss the prompt. A single review can back more than one theme.

Praise that keeps coming up

  1. 01

DreamStudio once did the job well

Just one review across both pages gives four or five stars: a December 2022 note calling DreamStudio the best image editor and generator its author had tried. Some of the harshest posts also concede that the images themselves were fine until the account or payment trouble started.

Recurring complaints

  1. 01

    Billing that continues after cancelling

The newest review, from October 2026, describes a cancelled Stable Audio plan that kept switching back on and renewing. Others report $19 taken after a three-day trial was cancelled, charges after the account had been deleted, and a card hit with attempted charges every week while there was no billing page to end them.

    How Yovid handles it

Yovid’s packs, from $29.90, are single payments with nothing to renew, and a subscription can be cancelled from your account at any time. An order whose credits are untouched stays refundable for 3 days, minus payment fees (max 4% + $1.50); renewals are not refundable.

  2. 02

    Support that goes quiet

People describe weeks with no reply, a paid Plus account they could no longer open, a password reset that never worked, bought credits that never appeared, and an API that stopped answering and displayed a negative balance, with automated emails the only response.

    How Yovid handles it

On Yovid a failed run gives its credits back by itself, on the web app and the API alike, so there is no ticket to file, and Premium comes with priority support.

  3. 03

Credit prices raised, apps shut down

One DreamStudio regular reports the price of an image rising more than sixfold, from about 1.25 credits to 8, credits already bought included, ahead of a switch to subscriptions only. A second found purchased credits unusable once a $9-a-month plan replaced them, and a third saw a whole library of saved images vanish.

    How Yovid handles it

Yovid shows each run’s credit price before you generate, and pack credits, from $29.90, stay valid for 180 days to a year with no subscription attached.

  4. 04

    Outputs that miss the prompt

Reviewers say a side-profile request came back as something else, Stable Assistant drew a cat with six paws and still charged for each miss, video output was badly broken, and short audio clips sounded thin next to rival music tools.

    How Yovid handles it

Yovid prices a run before it starts and refunds it if it fails, but a finished result you dislike is still charged, so try new prompts at short lengths and low resolution first. The showcase lists the prompt behind each clip, which helps you judge a model beforehand.

We read both Trustpilot pages on November 1, 2026. Neither is claimed and few reviews are recent, so together they describe Stability AI’s retired consumer apps and its billing far more than its open models. We summarize rather than quote; each link opens the reviewer’s own words.

Stability AI Pricing in 2026

Stability AI has no single plan. Self-hosting is free below $1M in revenue, the API charges $0.01 per credit as you go, and Stable Audio sells monthly tiers. Here they are beside Yovid’s plans.

Why People Pick Yovid over Stability AI

Most people who look elsewhere want finished video from a browser, not a model to host.

  1. 01

    Video you can make today

Stability AI has hosted no video since July 2025. On Yovid, Seedance 2.5 and 2.0, Kling, Veo, Wan and MiniMax H3 run in the browser from a prompt or a still, and Seedance 2.5 clips last up to 30 seconds with sound.

  2. 02

    No GPUs, no revenue thresholds

Yovid runs every model on its own servers and shows each run’s price before it starts. Packs from $29.90 include commercial rights whatever your company earns, whereas Stability AI’s free self-hosting ends at $1M a year and needs your own hardware.

  3. 03

A free Seedance week on Premium

Premium ($99 a month paid yearly) comes with one 7-day window per account of free Seedance 2.5 and 2.0 clips, up to 11 ten-second clips at 720p, and failed runs never cost credits.

When Stability AI is still the better call

  • You want open weights to host, fine-tune or ship inside your own product.
  • Your app relies on its image editing, upscaling or 3D endpoints.
  • Music is your work, and Stable Audio with its DAW plugin fits the way you produce.

Questions People Ask

Straight answers on Stability AI, based on what we checked on November 1, 2026.

What does Stability AI make?
Generative models. Stable Diffusion 3.5 handles images, Stable Audio 3.0 handles music and sound effects, and a 3D line (SPAR3D, Stable Fast 3D, Stable Video 4D) builds objects and multi-angle views. Developers download the weights or call them over the API, musicians work in the Stable Audio app or its plugin, and big companies license models or pay for custom ones.
Is Stability AI free to use?
In part. Anyone under $1M in yearly revenue can download and self-host the open models at no cost under the Community License, commercial use included once registered. The API comes with 25 free credits and then charges $0.01 per credit, and Stable Audio’s free tier gives 50 credits a month, with paid tiers from $12 (prices as of November 1, 2026).
Can Stability AI generate video?
No hosted option is left. Since July 24, 2025, when its API was retired, the only way to use Stable Video Diffusion, which renders clips of 14 or 25 frames, is to license the weights and run them yourself. For clips straight from a browser, Yovid offers Kling, Veo, Wan and Seedance 2.5.
Can I sell images made with Stable Diffusion?
Yes, inside the license. What you generate and any fine-tunes you make are yours under the Community License; selling them is allowed for businesses below $1M a year once they register with Stability, and an Enterprise license takes over beyond that. Images from the API may be put to commercial use provided they infringe nobody’s copyright.
How do I cancel Stable Audio, and can I get a refund?
Any time. On stableaudio.com, sign in, click your avatar, pick Manage payments, then use the Stripe link that arrives by email. Refunds are the exception: the Terms treat payments and credits as final unless the law says otherwise, and unused API credits lapse 12 months after purchase. Stable Audio may still make a discretionary refund for an accidental or unrecognized charge, or when you ask inside 48 hours having used less than 2% of the credits.
What is a good Stability AI alternative for video?
Yovid, if you want hosted video: Seedance 2.5 at up to 1080p, pay-once packs from $29.90 with commercial rights, credits back when a run fails, and Kling, Veo, Wan and MiniMax H3 in the same composer. If you also want cinematic studio tools, Higgsfield is the nearest multi-model option.
Is Yovid affiliated with Stability AI?
No. Yovid is independent. Stability AI, Stable Diffusion, Stable Audio, Seedance and the other product names belong to their owners and appear here only to describe and compare the products.
